You can see from this close-up of the memorial Pulpit in Zeal Monachorum Church that it was as Jack Stentiford that the village remembered John.

We wrote about Jack's grandparents in Issue 8 - Richard Stentiford and Elizabeth Hooper and briefly, about his family - he was the only son of Richard Stentiford and Mary Ann Rice.

Jack Stentiford's medal card shows his arrived in France on 27 August 1914 and his entitlement to the 1914 Star as well as the British and Victory medals. It also shows that as the war went on he was promoted from Private to Sergeant.
