** This name appears in the 1891 Census which shows her working  as a parlourmaid at a house in Torquay called Lisburn, occupied by a solicitor called  Charles Kitson. Richard and Emma also worked in this household at the same time- he as a gardener, she as a housemaid. In the 1881 Census, Mary Ann can be found working as a housemaid in the home of Simon Sherard, a clergyman who lived in a district then called Woodland, a tiny parish now part of Ipplepen on the outskirts of Newton Abbot.

***When Agnes remarried in 1920, three years after James's death, her new surname was "Christmas"!
