Six
years after James married Lucy, Henry Stentiford, another of James’
brothers, also came to live in the
area. He too married a girl from
Morchard Bishop – Mary Webber. The Webbers are one of the ancient
families to be found in the village and they are still there today. Henry
and Mary married on Christmas Day 1878 when she was 25 and he was 22. Like
James, Henry remained in Morchard Bishop until his death at the age of 74
on 29 November 1930. Maybe it was a chance seedling, maybe it was planted
in Henry's memory but today this great tree springs from the very centre
of his grave, towering over the neighbouring tombstones.
